research and development, and the birthplace of the future of what used to be known as rock music.
Spitkiss is the product of its environment, the leading edge of music through technology. It is a
digital canvas displaying the souls of these three pioneers, the artists who take control of the
tools at their fingertips and realize the power that they hold.
Constantly evolving, Spitkiss matures in bounds with each release. When the group debuted a demo
tape at a show early in its career, the entire batch of 200 sold out in 15 minutes following the
bands half-hour set. The industrial/metal power of its first E.P., 1995's
Not for Human Consumption, gathered
Spitkiss a huge following in the underground scene. Remixes pummeled the nightclub world, at home
and across Europe, with the crowd favorite being the hit, "T.L.F."
In 1998, with minds churning and too many ideas for their own good, Spitkiss recorded
Violence is Golden, a slightly
experimental album, and well ahead of its time. Stepping back from their beloved Macintoshes
and letting the synths control the electro-feel that had become the bands signature sound, yet
still remaining heavy in the guitar department, Spitkiss gave birth to twelve "rock by-product"
songs. The tracks "Digits" and "Blind" led the pack and were included on multiple compilations.
Spitkiss also included a cover of the song "Cold", from the Cure's Pornography
disc. Supporting this album with shows throughout their home state of California with the likes
of Filter, Neurosis, Gravity Kills, Course of Empire, Marilyn Manson, HedPE, Papa Roach,
Insolence and countless others, brought these weary artists back home charged with the energy
of creation.
Stripping down to bare roots and deciding to create without distraction in their own environment,
Spitkiss restarts itself with an impending new album, Shift Control. Concentrating on what the
band truly wanted from each song, reaching into its soul, and pushing its technology to the edge
has resulted in astounding songs, reinforced direction and the truest songs by the band to date.
Focused on melody and feel, and taking the time to properly render each song, Spitkiss has topped
all prior releases. With the "dance-floor hit" feel of "Planet Earth", the desperation encompassed
in "Just want you" or the technological addiction of the first single "Mechamphetamine", Spitkiss
gathers the bits, compiles the code, and lays the foundation for its own headquarters, at the
forefront of the musical millennium.
But Spitkiss is not just a band. In order to understand, one must see it live. Known for its
power and poise, when Spitkiss is onstage, it demands attention. Guitarist, programmer
and songwriter Justin Winokur is a virtual ball of fire and energy, who pours his all into his
instrument at every show, always. Boris Popkoff, the primary programmer and keyboardist, is so
consumed by his instrument that he ends up with broken keys and knobs and even fingers. Standing
tall in the midst of the chaos, Spitkiss vocalist and founding member, Adam Bannister commands
the stage. He gives forth every night, always leaving the stage covered not only in sweat, but
often in tears, blood, or all three. Behind these men, there is more than the sweat, the music
and the vibe. There is a show. An experience designed to further immerse the spectator into the
